Juanita and Yau Goh – One Fine Autumn Wedding Day – White Label Series 2010

I still remember glancing out the window on a Thursday afternoon, watching the raindrops streak across my windowglass.

Are we gonna have to shoot wet?

I just got back from a dear beloved friend’s funeral that Thursday, and now I had a wedding to shoot this Saturday. It was a week of emotional swing. A rollercoaster-ride of emotions.

Luckily for all of us, the heavens opened up for a glorious Saturday wedding day. And I couldn’t have asked for more. Juanita and Yau Goh were the first couple to have approached me for a full day wedding coverage. They are gorgeous and are both so easy going. Even during our informal pre-wedding chats you can see them kissing and holding each other so intimately. I instantly knew that they are going to be just the candidate for amazing photos.

Congratulations Juanita and Yau Goh. It was a real pleasure documenting your special day from start to end. I just know that the two of you will sail through life’s seas, both smooth and rough, on the same boat, forever.

Belated kind Birthday.

I was supposed to blog on the 10th June 2010. I guess that didn’t happen haha. Twenty two. As Nagulan said, 1 year anniversary from my 21st. Or as Yang put it, 1 year of experience as a better photographer from the last. Still doesn’t hide the fact that we all grow old and shrivel.

I love celebrating birthdays, don’t get me wrong. And capturing how each celebration goes is something I will always do and always will advocate.

“Every celebration must not be forgotten…”

It’s funny, I know. I just don’t like celebrating my own. It’s so immensely difficult to explain. I guess I just don’t enjoy the attention from everyone. Maybe I’m being too self-conscious. But maybe that’s why I so thoroughly enjoy celebrating other people’s birthdays. Some part inside of me wants to party together with others, without the burden of having to become host to a series of formalities associated with organisation of a party.

Nevertheless, I’ve always enjoyed good company with friends – birthday or no birthday. I manage to spend time with my good Pharmacy mates at Toto’s Vietnamese Restaurant in Victoria Park and then had some nice drinks at the beautiful Alure bar in Burswood. This is what they got me:

Gotta love friends like these. Thanks guys.

And thank you all for the warm wishes on my Wall. You guys are all awesome.

The Annual UWA Health Science Society Ball: Colours of Autumn – Black Label Series 2010 – Photographer’s Notes

I was at work when Alex, Vice President of the UWA Health Science Society (HSS) left a Voicemail for me. The voicemail mentioned that the team was looking for a Ball Photographer for their annual HSS Ball. To be honest, I was a little hesitant at first. Because studio shots weren’t my thing. I’m not well equipped for those shoots. However, having a strong affinity for University Clubs (which was how I started event photography anyway!) I decisively replied back to the request.

To my surprise, Alex found me through BONDage Ball Event back in 2009. He loved my work and wanted me to shoot in the same manner as I did at back then…a photojournalistic but subtle approach. He did say he wanted a few studio shots but told me that it was nothing formal. He’d already in fact had the backdrop set for me.

So I arrived with my 5DMK2 + 24-70mm f2.8L lens and a last minute instinctive hunch made me bring my 70-200mm f2.8L IS. Thank gawd for that!! I also came with an Soft Diffuser Umbrella and a custom made stand that I modified. I customised my umbrella to hang approximately 45-degrees to the ground and bounced my 580EX2 off the white umbrella and into the subject. Yes, it did work. No, it doesn’t substitute good studio power-lights. Nonetheless, photos turned out awesome. And the orangey tinge naturally gave photos an autumn look:

I had an awesome time guys, thank you for choosing Keegan Wong Photography. It also sounds as if I might be tentatively booked for next year’s ball, so I look forward to HSS Ball 2011! Till then, I hope the photos have captured moments that will never be forgotten.
